Dekalb County board of commissioners

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, representing the diverse districts that make up our thriving county, stands alongside CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson in welcoming the world to DeKalb as part of FIFA World Cup Atlanta 2026. As stewards of the communities they serve, the Commissioners play a vital role in advancing infrastructure, engagement, and regional readiness to ensure our cities, attractions, and watch party experiences reflect the best of DeKalb County’s cultural pride and global hospitality.

The Board of Commissioners serves as the legislative branch of the DeKalb County government. The Board is comprised of seven part-time commissioners, all elected to a four year term . DeKalb County is divided into five districts with one commissioner serving each district. There are also two “super districts,” one on the east end of the county and the other on the west end, each making up about half of the county population. Each super district is served by one commissioner. Therefore, every citizen of DeKalb County is served by two commissioners, one with the district and one with the super district.

My vision for Clarkston is centered on sustainable growth and community pride. As mayor, my goals include driving economic development, expanding our city boundaries, promoting balanced and intentional housing development, and implementing the Clarkston Greenway Project.

Decatur

Mayor Patti Garrett

Patti Garrett was elected to the Decatur City Commission in 2009 and has served as Mayor since 2016. She represents the DeKalb County Mayors on the Board of the Atlanta Regional Commission; at ARC.

Doraville

The City of Doraville is governed by a Mayor and a six-member City Council, all elected to serve four-year terms. The Council is responsible for enacting policies, overseeing municipal operations, and guiding strategic development efforts that reflect the city’s diverse community and commitment to smart growth.

The City of Dunwoody has a Council-Manager form of government. There are six Councilmembers and one Mayor who make up the Council as a whole.
